In honor of National Mole Day, the Great Pumpkin, and hungry chemistry students everywhere the department celebrated with its second social of the semester at 6:03 10/24. Foods that sound like the American Chemical Society mascot (guacamole, mole poblano, and squeeky-squeeky) were on the menu.

Two chemistry students participated in the Analytical Outreach program at Eli Lilly's central facility in Indianapolis on Friday, October 17. The program invites select students from mid-west universities to tour Lilly's analytical laboratories and learn from Lilly employees what it is like to work in the pharmaceutical industry. No cameras are allowed in the complex, so here is the group posing outside visitor's center.

Students in the Environmental Chemistry course performed a chemical assessment of the local Mississinewa watershed. Following a significant rain, students dispersed across the county collecting water samples from each significant tributary to and including the Mississinewa River. Dissolved oxygen, nitrate, total nitrogen, ammonia, phosphate, total phosphorus, pH, conductivity, and turbidity levels were tested.

The Chemistry Department will be hosting a casual meeting time for department alumni, family, and friends after the football game on Saturday of homecoming. We'll gather in Nussbaum 301 from around 4:00 - 5:30 on October 11th. Snacks and beverages will be provided. I've been told that Dr. Kroll is planning to make something special! Please feel free to come and go as your schedule allows. We all look forward to seeing you.
